We are grateful for your interest in our mission-based organization. Our mission is to provide emergency aid to Holocaust Survivors in need. KAVOD was created in November 2015 in Memphis, TN to help Holocaust Survivors in the US live the remainder of their lives comfortably and with dignity.
It has been estimated that there are 80,000 Survivors living in the United States and that over 1/3rd are living at or near poverty levels. It is unconscionable and unacceptable that these courageous people, who’ve endured so much already, are living their remaining years struggling with day to day essential needs. KAVOD was created to help these Survivors live their remaining years with dignity and honor.
KAVOD partners with Jewish Family Service and other organizations that work with Survivors. The agency makes requests on behalf of the Survivors on a confidential basis. KAVOD provides gift cards from local grocery stores or pharmacies and will pay a provider directly to assist them with whatever emergency or day to day needs that they have. The decisions of KAVOD are overseen by a diverse and experienced Board of community leaders, most of whom are children of Survivors.
100% of all donations received by KAVOD goes to the Survivors.
Since inception, KAVOD has served Holocaust Survivors in: Denver CO, Memphis TN, Chicago IL, West Palm Beach FL, Gulf Coast FL, Miami FL, Houston TX, NYC, Orange County NY, Somerville NJ, Elizabeth NJ, Charleston SC, Charlotte NC, Chattanooga TN, Kansas City KS, San Jose CA, Cleveland OH, Metro West NJ, Raleigh NC, Jacksonville FL, Ft. The need is growing every day and we have a limited time to support this vulnerable senior community. John and Amy Israel Pregulman are the founders of KAVOD. John is a native of Chattanooga, TN and has been photographing Survivors since 2012. As of December of 2020, John has taken 1174 photographs in the US, Japan, Poland, Israel and Czech Republic. There is no commercial aspect to this project; he simply gives the photos to the Survivors and their families in an effort to honor and preserve their legacy. He continues to tour the country taking photographs, as well as raising money for KAVOD, and would welcome inquiries from anyone who knows of Survivors who would like to have their photos taken. Amy is a native Memphian who has had a career in the Jewish nonprofit world. She is the Executive Director and works with John on all aspects of the organization as well as the Photography Legacy Project.
Traveling around the world, he sometimes ordered medicines and now knows about the services of selling medicines online, you can go to the website if you are interested in favorable prices.
In this time of COVID when John can not visit with Holocaust Survivors across the country, he is connecting students from different schools to create pen-pals with Survivors and students to help offset the isolation that has been increased due to the pandemic. If you have students in your community that would like to create a pen-pal program, reach out to John by email.
