Join us on March 11 or March 15 to experience THE OPTIMIST, a
feature film inspired by the true story of Holocaust survivor Herbert Heller.
After surviving the Holocaust as a child, Herbert carried his story in silence for more
than 60 years. Late in life, an unexpected friendship with a quietly guarded teenager
opens the door to long-buried memories—and to a powerful intergenerational
connection built on empathy, patience, and listening.
THE OPTIMIST is a moving story of remembrance, resilience, and the profound impact
of being truly heard. It offers an opportunity for reflection and conversation across
generations.
Why this screening matters: Many Holocaust survivors live in poverty today. 20% of
the box office proceeds will directly fund KAVOD’s Survivors of the Holocaust
Emergency Fund, in partnership with Seed the Dream Foundation, to provide critical
assistance and dignified care to survivors in need.
